A Brief History

The Catskill, New York Senior Community Adult Care Facility now known as Home Sweet Home on the Hudson was founded some ninety years ago as St. Joseph's Villa by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New York. Under the nuns' direction, the facility enjoyed an impeccable reputation for high quality care and warm, personalized service.

Today, under the careful direction of new owner, Stephanie Mahna, RN, a gerontologist and owner /director of a similar facility, nearby Home Sweet Home of Athens, Home Sweet Home on the Hudson aspires to continue in the excellent tradition of its past, offering the highest quality care provided by a staff of compassionate and accomplished nurses.

A Resort-Like Setting

With a location right on the western banks of the mighty Hudson River, Home Sweet Home on the Hudson offers residents dramatic views of passing ships, an unusual, changing array of wildlife and verdant expanses of lawn and mature landscaping for the ultimate in peace and serenity.

Gazing east on a clear day, residents enjoy vistas which include the stately Persian-style mansion of Olana, home of famous Hudson River artist Frederic Church. To the distant north is a stunning view of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge which spans the Hudson River from Columbia County's town of Hudson to Greene County's famous Catskill Mountains.

Convenient to neighboring Ulster, Dutchess and Columbia Counties, adjacent to Albany and New York's Capital District, a short drive from charming Rhinebeck, historic Kingston, popular Hudson, famous Woodstock and not far from the tourist-attractive Stockbridge, Massachusetts area, Home Sweet Home on the Hudson's Catskill location enjoys a magnificent perspective on the finest aspects of nature, including the quiet symphony of sounds indigenous to sheltered rural living, removed from the hustle and bustle of the big city...yet close enough to escape to the diversion and entertainment of an occasional daytrip or dinner at a favorite restaurant.
